Mepal Sports Junior FC
Mepal Sports Junior FC was set up in 2001 by Paul Jeffrey & Rod Shipley coaching boys and girls at Mepal Primary School on a Saturday . The initial idea for a Club came from a group of 6 parents who were concerned that there was no local provision for Football through the Junior School. Paul Jeffrey’s became the first Secretary to the club, and Rod Shipley became Chairman.
In 2002 the first two league teams were formed and training moved to the recreation field in Mepal.
In 2003 the Junior Club had 2 teams at under 7’s and under 10’s. The Teams had successful league seasons and then followed this up with success in local Tornaments.
The under 7’s were runners up in the Chatteris tournament, beaten only by the golden goal and then they won the Witchford tournament. The under 10’s won the Waterbeach tournament that same year.
The Junior Football Club, under strong management, gained FA Charter Standard status in November 2003 which it has maintained.
In 2004 the club continued to grow with teams developing from under 7’s through to under 11’s.As a small club branching into the colts football league has proved difficult.
The Club has continued to grow and now has teams at all Mini-League age groups which have been fed by the successful Academy.
The Club has run 3 successful trips to Ipswich Town for Training with their Coaching Staff followed by watching a First-Team match. We have also arranged pantomime trips for the entire Club.
In 2009 the then Chairman Mark Holland arranged for our old kit to be donated to a group of children in Africa. The resulting photo was published in the local press and we will be repeating this in the near future.
The Club still has a strong Committee for the season 2010/2011. Lau Berraondo is the current Chairman as we move into our 10th Competitive season of Cambridge FA Mini-League.
